Young Adult Ministry

At this time Saint John the Evangelist Parish does not have any ministry for young adults. Parishioners who are young adults are encouraged to check out opportunities across the Archdiocese and the region. 

Office of Catholic Youth (OCY):

The OCY has many opportunities for ministry for young adults. Check out their website for more information. The OCY runs various events both regionally and Archdiocesan wide. 

Spiritus East Young Adult Ministry: 

A ministry for young adults in the Eastern Region of the Archdiocese of Toronto. For more information check out their Facebook page.

Oshawa Catholic Chaplaincy:

For students who attend UOIT (OnTechU), Durham College, or Trent Durham the Oshawa Chaplaincy has many events and programs for you to connect with. The Oshawa Chaplaincy also offers Theology on Tap for young adults across the Durham Region (and beyond) to come and join.

Missionary Opportunities: 

For young adults looking to step out in faith with the Lord perhaps becoming a lay missionary is a calling for you. You never know until you give it a chance. There are many opportunities in our Archdiocese and even nation wide that can help you live this missionary calling.

Vocations: 

As we grow older and move from our teenage to our adult years we often begin asking the big questions about what we want to do with our life. We look at what schools we want to go to. What career we may want to get. But we don't always think about what God wants us to do with our lives. We all have a vocation in life. Our primary vocation is to holiness, to become like Christ. God has a specific plan for how we are to achieve that holiness. Most people consider marriage (or the sacrament of matrimony) as the plan for their lives. The sacrament of matrimony is beautiful and leads husband and wife to holiness through their relationship with each other and God.

However, not everyone's vocation is to matrimony. Some are called to live the life of celibacy. This can be either as a priest, religious (i.e. nun, religious brother/sister), or consecrated singles. We are each called and chosen by God for a particular vocation. Perhaps He is calling you to the vocation of celibacy. The Archdiocese of Toronto has the Office of Vocations that can help direct you to resources and people who can help you discern your path towards a vocation of celibacy. Don't be afraid to answer God's call. 

"The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest" (Matthew 9:37-38 ESV).
