Altar serving is a ministry for those who have completed their First Communion and older. Generally this means youth Grades 3 and up. Altar serving is an important ministry as it assists the priest in the celebration of the Holy Mass. If the Mass is a foretaste here on Earth of the heavenly banquet then altar servers are like the angels and saints praising and serving God. This is an exciting ministry! Nobody else at Mass gets to do what altar servers do during Mass. This is why it is important to be early and prepared for serving.
With the current pandemic altar serving looks a little bit different. Currently we have a mix of youth and adult servers at our Sunday Masses. However, being on time and prepared to serve is still needed. We also request that those who serve please dress appropriately for serving (i.e. no casual clothes, shorts, track pants, etc., avoid jeans if possible) or wear an alb provided in the altar servers' room.
Please also consider taking a few minutes before and after Mass to thank God for the opportunity to serve and offer up your serving as a prayer for the community and others in your life.
