Every year during Catholic Education Week, we are called to celebrate the valuable contributions that Catholic schools make to our parish communities, our province and our country.

This year, Catholic Education Week will be celebrated from Sunday, May 1 to Friday, May 6 and its theme will be, “Rebuild, Restore, Renew Together.” It is inspired by Revelations 21:5, “Behold, I make all things new.”

The theme is meant to capture the hope that can be present for all of us during these uncertain times of Covid, in our mental health struggles resulting from the pandemic and for a bright future for Indigenous reconciliation.

Throughout the week, schools, parishes and many other organizations will recognize Catholic education in a number of ways.

On Wednesday, May 4 at 10 a.m., Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, will celebrate a Mass at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica for Catholic education. Catholic educators are welcomed to come to the cathedral to celebrate in-person and the Mass will also be livestreamed on the cathedral’s website

Publicly funded Catholic education has been serving Ontario well since 1841. During Catholic Education Week, let's pray for the teachers, students, principal, staff, parents and all those who support Catholic education.
