On Monday, June 22, 2026, His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo, together with Bishop John A. Boissonneau, celebrated Mass with members of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in St. John’s Chapel at St. Michael's Cathedral Basilica.

The Order of Malta celebrates the Feast of St. John the Baptist each year on June 24, recognizing him as its patron saint. This feast commemorates the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, one of the few saintly births celebrated in the Catholic Church. The feast day is a cornerstone of the Order’s calendar and is observed around the world by its Grand Priories, National Associations, Embassies, and Relief Corps across five continents.

Cardinal Leo holds the distinguished rank of Bailiff Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion within the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (Canadian Association).

The Sovereign Order of Malta is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilization. A lay religious order of the Catholic Church since 1113 and a subject of international law, the Order maintains diplomatic relations with more than 100 states and the European Union and holds permanent observer status at the United Nations. It is neutral, impartial, and apolitical.

The Order’s motto, Tuitio fidei et obsequium pauperum – “defence of the faith and service to the poor” – reflects its mission. Originating with a hospital in Jerusalem, the Order continues to provide care and humanitarian assistance throughout the world, regardless of nationality, race or creed.
